Dr Diane Budden,
Researcher
School of History, Archaeology & Philosophy,
University of Winchester
I successfully completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Winchester in July 2024. My research focuses on healthcare practices and the medical care provided by healers to rural, urban and seafaring communities in Hampshire between1475 - 1575.
Research Interests
My research interests encompass a diverse range of topics in healthcare during the late medieval and early modern period with a particular focus on the pre- and post- English Reformation era.

This includes exploring the intersections of herbal, magical and spiritual healing practices, as well as the traditional hierarchy of professional medicine. Through my comprehensive investigations I aim to deepen our understanding of the complexities surrounding healthcare practises and illuminate the historical context in which they evolved.
